The Long-lasting Appeal of Beryl Cook’s Artwork

It is always sad for art lovers worldwide when they suffer the loss of an artist; but one as popular and distinctive as Beryl Cook (http://www.collectorsprints.co.uk/artist_page.php?artist=Beryl+Cook), whose talent has been making everyday people smile for decades, is especially difficult. The key to Beryl’s work was quite obvious; her sense of humour shone through. From the time she began painting in the fifties until right before her death, Beryl’s plump, jolly characters brought her - and many others - a great sense of fun.
Beryl died peacefully on 28th of May 2008, at her home in Plymouth, aged 81. Beryl had lived in Plymouth for over 25 years, and much of her inspiration came from observations of the place she so happily resided. It was easy to see her love of the colourful members of her community by looking at her works.
Eight months after her death, Beryl Cook’s work remains highly collectible.
Here are 5 reasons why investing in Beryl Cook’s work could be a great idea:
1. It is sad but true that often works of art become much more popular after an artists death. The national press coverage of Beryl’s passing was so huge that it has drawn attention to her work in a way that sometimes isn’t possible while an artist is living. Therefore, demand for her work will only increase as the amount of available artworks decrease.
2. While she was alive, Beryl Cook’s work has always sold consistently. This is a good indicator of her popularity, and shows that she was well liked and admired before her death. In 1994, Beryl was voted the Best Selling Published artist by the Fine Art Trade Guild, proving how well loved she really was.
3. Beryl Cook paved the way for many other artists working in the naïve genre of art. She was one of the founders of this genre of artwork, and it follows that her work will be collected as such. Beryl was also one of the most talked about contemporary popular artists, and her work was often the basis for discussion about the elitism of public galleries such as the Tate, who refused to add any of her work to their collection.
4. Beryl’s signed prints will only be available for a limited period; once they are sold out, there will of course be no further access to signed Limited Editions from her.  Some of Beryl’s best works are available here. (http://www.collectorsprints.co.uk/artist_page.php?artist=Beryl+Cook)
5. Framed open edition prints by Beryl Cook are available here. (http://www.collectorsprints.co.uk/artist_page.php?artist=Beryl+Cook)          These are a great way to buy a piece of Beryl’s work at a lower price point, and being that they are already framed, they are ready to hang on the wall!
The key to Beryl Cook’s work is quite obvious; her sense of humour shines through, and from the time she began painting in the fifties until right before her death, Beryl’s plump, jolly characters brought her - and the rest of us - a great sense of fun.
Long may the enjoyment of her work continue!
